In science, the Inverse Square Law is prevalent from gravitational effects to illumination. Simply stated, the influence of the first object declines proportionately to the square of the distance separating the first from the second. So a light that is one foot away is four times as bright as the same light two feet away, and a massive object far away only exerts a pull one ninth as powerful as it could if the distance were a third of what it is.
Humans can be influenced by this law too. A person will almost always chose to date someone thirty minutes away versus someone four hours away because even if the more distant one is twenty or forty times better of a match, the declining power over the distance means that option two must be sixty four times as good to have the same effect. Add to that the logistical hurdles of scheduling a rendezvous (especially if a border is involved) and the time and expenses needed and the more distant option must truly be special, unique even, for there to be any chance of success with the secondary option.
I’m not 64x.
I’m not even 10x.
No matter how brightly I shine, my brilliance cannot overcome the distance. And so excellence is lost to convenience and proximity.
But even though the sun is distant, it continues to shine and send its light, and over time still warms the earth. Overtime, even at a distance, maybe I can warm your heart as mine is not just a flash of passion but a constant burn of adoration, so time reduces the impact of distance. As in physics, consistency over time with intensity leads to energy transfer and effect. You alone can decide if it is enough to warm your heart with the light.
