Friend in Pain

Watching your friend in pain is the worst.

The smile that lit your world slowly fading,

The laughter forgotten and memories pale

As their skin has become,

Thin and stretched.

The bad choices, the desperation and anger

As they lash out against those they love and the Universe

For cursing them, and they in turn curse you.

The fire and passion tinged now with darkness,

A fear creeping into them that permeates their actions;

Blackening your own thoughts with worry,

As you powerlessly struggle against something you can not fight.

And their hopelessness, their despair

Spreads into your spirit as you both slowly die.
