Love Burns

Early love is a blazing flame,

passion and light, sparks

flying and dancing.

Mature love is coals;

hotter and deeper,

not easily quenched

and occasionally

flaring up

when fed and fanned,

embers igniting

in the night with blasts of heat

and light;

the ancient shadows

dancing once more.
