Forged in Fire

I bent my body to my will,

Reshaping it through sacrifice and desire.

I changed the curve of my destiny

Sweating and toiling through the fire.

All that I have, I have earned

Through sacrifice to my beliefs

And the most important thing I learned

Is that the substance lies beneath

The surface that others dote upon:

The face or hair or eyes.

The substance of the person

Is more than most people realize.

For under the beauty lies the truth

In its raw and naked form

And excellence of character is rare

A jewel far from the norm.

I smelted my self and my soul

In fires of my spirit

I look in your eyes and see love

Reflected, even if you refuse to hear it

As it echoes in your empty halls

A memory of what once was

A time when my fire made us smile

And passion was all that was

Real, and fired our souls each day

To make ourselves better than clay

To be strong, and fierce, in all we do

The fire in my crucible was you.

And its gone out.
